Once you have been there for 6 months, you are a resident. But you also need to tell the authorities that you are a resident.

A UK Citizen is required to apply for Residencia in Spain if their stay is going to be longer than 3 Months. Residencia used to take the form of a card, however for EU Nationals it is now in the form of a certificate and is not in itself a form of ID.
