How long do I have to live in Spain to recieve citizenship

How long do I have to live in Spain to recieve citizenship?
I have heard you can recieve citizenship if your grandparents were born in Spain, that's not the case here. My Great great grandparents were born in Spain, so that doesnt apply to me.

Never. Europe sheds humans and shuns humans for their own benefit. America is a dumping ground- we were supoposed to die there.

Spain doesn't allow dual citizenship so you would have to renounce your American citizenship in order to take it up but you become eligible after 10 years legal residence in Spain & jumping through a few other hoops http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_nationality_law#Spanish_nationality_by_naturalization_and_residence#

The true answer depends on your own Nationality at the moment. Many Nationalities have to first be legally resident in Spain for 5 years before they can then apply for citizenship. Applying for residency in Spain is really the first step in the process and not one that you are automatically likely to be granted unless you are already a citizen of the EU.
